清明
I was reading Leonard's blog about Cheng Meng...
I reminds me of something that i've not done for the past 8yrs since my grandpa died.
I used to do it with my dad every year for my grandpa's dad though.
We'll spend half the time looking for my Great-grandpa's grave.
After finding it, we'll always tell each other that we'll write the row and "unit" number somewhere.... but come next year, it'll be the same old hunting game all over again.
But it was fun lah... illegally stop by the expressway, jump across drains, hop from one tomb to another, examining some interesting ones, playing with fire, cleaning up the place, catching some grasshopper... only when I'm older that I realised the importance of it...
It ain't about fun or making offering to the soul of great grand pa... If there's really such a thing as afterlife, I believed he would already had long reincarnated atleast 50~60 times as ants, earthworms, bird, fish and my fav crispy BBQ piglets. It's about taking afew hours break in a year to remember our roots, reflect on life itself, be thankful to those that have make our current life possible and to treasure those that's still around us...

Bros, cheng ming is one a year event, but if you think of showing respect or just simply feel like visiting them, it's always there for you, don't have to be cheng ming then go, right. That what my dad told me, and I agreed with him, why wait till cheng ming then go leh, for the crowd or atmosphere or maybe to show huh huh you know la huh.
anyway it's our roots so do it offen with respect and honour.
Lau hero: Well said! Why wait till then ChinMing... but ppl tends to be too busy "living" that we forget the dead...
Yeah, we should keep them in our heart all the time.
My ancestors is in China.
and we've been praying to a statue in Guang Ming Shan -_-""
i'll rem the dead, since i often feel and see them. shrug.. i dun need ching ming to remind me. ;)
Well said, but then in this modern and busy world, how many still stick to traditions?
I already see lesser and lesser people each year during my tomb sweeping. Sighz.
Is your grandpa's grave beside PIE, towards airport, just before Onraet Road? This stretch of Expressway always gets a lot of visitors during Cheng Meng. Yesterday, i saw the whold stretch of road shoulder barricaded off to prevent people from stopping their vehicles there ;p
actually what is the real meaning for ching ming? Is it just simply to remember them just on that particular day? BTW, does lau hero always go to the tomb to pray???
n
Good dat ya fami kept the tradition going. Sad to say my dun, but we always kept them in our hearts....i hope.. ;)
Did I read wrong that you stopped sweeping grave after you grandfather died. His ash in GuanMingShan condo, no need to sweep?
emiri,
i think Anonymous is right..there's a typo in the first line ..."I reminds me of something that i've not done for the past 8yrs since my grandpa died.
I used to do it with my dad every year for my grandpa's dad though.
"
most importantly, the top first line with the word "Leonard's" the hyperlink is not there...btw, thanks for the intention of linking me... ;)
yeah it's really important.
:)
i'm glad you realised it now! :p
Spinnee: 3rd eye?!!
SI: Can do it on line... but I doubt it's as meaningful as getting my ass of the seat and really taking the trouble to do something.
MC: Yeah, that's the place...
?Boy: Like Valentine's day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Children's Day... you can do it everyday of your life or not at all. Guess it's just a reminder for those who forget.
Maybe in China around this time they've just finish planting the new crops and have a few days free to visit the ancestors, so it's fixed on this period...
Asterix: N
Dukester: Nowadays I also never do that liao... maybe I should.
A1: You eyes quite sharp hor... but it's not a typo lah.
I used to visit my Great Grand father's grave every year with my dad when I'm young.
But when my grand father died, I stopped doing the ChinMing thingy all together... didn't sweep both the grave of my Great grandpa or my grandpa at all.
Leonard: My bad, the link is ok now... hehehehe...
i nv been to one chin min stuff
no idea i always miss occassions
like weddings.birthdays.CNY.ppl giving birth and funerals
so yea i really love to go one
and experience the fun
but i do have a habit of strolling in cemetry for a nice thinking cooling space.. veri peaceful..
Oomiakaoo: Better late than never! Hehehe...
VV: Actually it's not really that fun for singapore's cemetry at this time... hot like hell, suddenly rain, mud, long grass, mosquitoes...
My fun of visiting graveyard was gone when the government acquired the cemetery and the remains in the graves were relocated.
Actually, it is good to visit our elders' or ancestors' graves, at least, we can receive some "blessings".
i've never visited a graveyard. hmm.. but i think it really is a time to remember those who had passed on bah.
kinda, i'm not those 3rd eye , but only can feel them bah..
sometimes can see shadow type.
so i dun need CHing Meng to remind myself of the dead.
my heart will missed the ones i loved, like my grandma.
*sob*
just an answer to my dear question boy....and my answer is YES, to cemetery is abt 3 - 4 times per year before and 6 to 7 times a year to temples but not to the cemetery now a day, all the remain are collected and place in the urn, per outing is 3 places for the days accordingly to their (the death)customary, they are all my grands, uncles and aunties.
Thank you emiri, using your comment to answer some doubt.
Oi .. my birdy is not small hor!!

Sleazeboy
Joepsc: I doubt myine bless me much... 4D, Toto never strike...
JAG: You lived in bt batok? Yeah, the HDB flats was builded on graveyard... Muhahahaha!
Spinnee: So far I haven't really miss anyone that I'm very close with... touch wood!
