Was busy like hell for the last few days and I couldn't even get the time to reply the comments on my blog...
Seems that I didn't do a good job to show where I stand in the "Li Ao" issue. Well, I'm with him!
I can't help but agree that we are weak in certain area, especially in regards to our politics, business shrewdness and defending our rights...
The word "Stupid" seems quite -ve and too strong for most ppl to stomach that it bruised the "National Pride". But hey! Only your family and friend would sugar coat their comments on you... and Li Ao ain't exactly your "MrPoliticallyCorrect".
So don't focus on just the phrasing or his choice of words, go beyond that... you might win the debate, but what do you really gain from that?
Taiwan is many times more cocked up and stupid in their own way, so what? You can't lay eggs doesn’t mean you can't comment on it’s taste.
I understand that it's human nature to be defensive whenever someone point their finger at us. But hey, if you can't take criticism, then you'll never improve. Are we so narrow/shallow that we only accept praise but not disparagement?
And by him saying that, does it reduce our market value on international level?

It don't hurt us to “look” stupid, easier to "Disguise as pig to eat tiger" than to be someone that everyone is guarding against.
But it'll hurt us real bad on when someone that holds you by the balls thinks that you are stupid... the govt.
They can do whatever they want to their little lambs that never kick or bite and follow them quietly to the slaughterhouse. If you let that happen... man, you're a dumb piece of shit!
I don't want a messy scene like Taiwan that leads to social unrest and economy upset. Neither do I want to be exploited like a slave.
But even if all the opposition grabs their seats in the coming election (Which I’m 100% sure wouldn’t happen), it's not going to tear our little country into pieces. But it'll sure remind PAP that the guillotine blade will come dropping if they sliped up some more.
Sticks and carrot, that's our govt’s way of doing things, the same should apply to them too... you have only one vote… only one chance in 4~5years… use it wisely!
PS: None of you need to agree with me or other readers, stand your ground and feel free to “hoot” anyone you like. Coz open discussion is the nature of my blog…

Hate to say this, but our current situation in singapore with the govt is like a marriage:
wife bitch about husband not bringing enuff back home, not happening enuff, not considerate enuff, not passionate enuff..etc
but at the end of the day, it's the husband that will hold the wife's hand and stand by them, despite the flaws.
and anyway, there's worse off guys out there nowadays.
den again, the husband must learn to improvise, to rejunavate themselves and represent to the wife!
so technically speaking, both must move together... everyone just bloody do their part den it'll be a good environment to live in.
then again, humans are greedy creatures...

Regardless of who hoot who or what eat what, there's always an agreement in between, each country or peoples of the nations has their own style and compromising statement to comply with.
Nevertheless it still work with your discipline, mentality and philosophy you have on how you judge and see it.

nola spinnee, the analogy simply does not apply to democracy. In a REAL democracy, govt is not our grandparents or parents or even husband. govt is simply a voter's employee!
That's not something I make up. That's the truth of a REAL democracy. (oh, and I am not the only one with such an idea. One veteran journalist wrote abt such concept too. and miraculously, it was published in the press too. see my blog's latest post).

IT IS A SORT OF GAMBLING!! you may or may not lose the stable life that you have now if voted some opposition that have no substance but simply with full hatred like you.
But looking at the situation, of course the chances of losing the stable life is definately high. You may have to be well prepared for it. Not everytime, a second chance will help to turn thing back to its original state.

Even an entrepreneur is interested in politics because new rules changes will affect their business.
If the news rules are not favourable to them ( like increase of corporate tax,unreasonably high tax on import goods for resale) the entrepreneur will try to lobby for a change of rules or pressure the politicians of redrawing of foreign or domestic capital or productive capial and business elsewhere.

1. Why would anyone for no reason want to destroy their own country and then leave the country? The probability of such mad-man behaviour is very very low. Only CIA agents and Intelligence Operation pple does such things!
2. The most likely explanation for disagreeing with govt is the opposite: they care about their country and LOVE THEIR COUNTRY so much that they cannot allow wrong things to go on in their country. Hence they speak out when they disagree.
3. Having oppositions will NOT destroy the country. It may even make the country better, because having a second voice to balance one voice is good!
